Abandoned Places Around the World
The Hotel Boavista, located in Curia,Portugal was initially built in 1917, at the time it was a Chalet known as “ Chalet Pinheiro ”, built by Colonel Pinheiro. In 1923, it was acquired by Sociedade das Águas da Curia, which carried out expansion works to transform the Chalet into a Hotel.
The unconfirmed author will be Francisco Leandro Cardoso (1862-1943), a graduate of the Porto School of Fine Arts and who for 18 years was involved in works at the Curia. In the building, the two construction phases harmonize perfectly, highlighting a semicircular porch on one side and on the opposite facade, a cylindrical tower that gives this building a characteristic and elegant appearance. (Cristina Simão, 1997).
The streets that today lead to the Hotel Boavista did not always exist, as can be deduced from what we said in relation to the new streets, which emerged from the conflicts between the people of Mata and the Sociedade das Águas da Curia (Rui Godinho, 1926). Initially, access was via a staircase, which connected Rua dos Cedros to the hotel. After the completion of the hotel adaptation work, the access streets were built.
Our visit to this old hotel was late, it was only possible to photograph the exterior , as the vast majority of the interior had collapsed and it was impossible to move around inside. There was news that indicated that the Curia center would be installed in this hotel, news from 2004, but obviously this did not happen and given the current state of the Hotel, it is clear that it will not be used for anything else, destined to be another ruin.
